Field Day 2001

NEXT FIELD DAY MEETING to be held Tuesday, May 1, 7:00 PM at Hope Homes (regular meeting place).

Hey, gang, it's April (no foolin). And you know what happens in April, don't you? Yeah, there's that Internal Revenue thing on April 15, but the REAL IMPORTANT thing that happens in April is that we start our plans for Field Day. The published purpose for Field Day is to test our ability to contact as many stations as possible under less-than-desirable "emergency" conditions. The Falls Club has always done a good job at accomplishing this purpose. There's another aspect, though, to Field Day and that is to have a good time over the Field Day weekend. To that end, we need to get as much of the nitty-gritty stuff out of the way ahead of time so that the Field Day weekend can be as enjoyable as possible. Think about it. There's food, fellowship and 24 hours of pure ham radio – all in the open air. Life is good!!

Field Day 2001 occurs on June 23 and 24 (always the last full, or last rainy, weekend in June). We have reserved our usual haunts on Groundhog Hill at Silver Springs Park in Stow. We need to determine which transmitter class we want to operate this year. Historically, we have operated in 5A, with 5 transmitters running for the contest period. Last year we ran 7A. We can do whatever class we want, but we need to choose a class where we stand a reasonable chance of operating all of the radios for a good chunk of the weekend.

We'll be setting up some planning meetings in order to get things under way. Please listen in on the CFARC nets to be informed as to the dates and times of these meetings. If you have any comments or suggestions for Field Day 2001, please drop me an E-Mail at k8eio@arrl.net. Looking forward to a successful and fun Field Day. Hope to C U there.
