- Field Day. It’s only a few weeks away, don’tcha know.
Yes, folks, Field Day 2001 is only a few weeks away and it’s time to get excited about it. The weekend of June 23 – 24 will see lots of RF floating around in the air as individuals and groups get together for radio fun, fellowship, food and testing their mettle in operating under temporary conditions. The CFARC will be out there among ‘em, operating at Stow’s Silver Springs Park. We have had a couple of planning meetings and things are starting to fall into line. Our next planning meeting will be on Tuesday, June 5, at 7:00, at Hope Center.
There are some things that we will need a lot of help with before, during and after Field Day. Shelter is always a problem. We had hoped that the National Guard might have some tents available, but Field Day falls in the middle of their Summer Camp at Grayling, Michigan. Ditto for the Army Reserve. We’re waiting to see if the Marine Corps Reserve might be able to give us a hand. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any suggestions for shelter devices. Campers, trailers, dump trucks(?), tents – anything with a roof and four or more walls would probably work.
But the most important item we need is YOU. We need people to set up the site, operate during the period and to tear down the site on Sunday the 24 th . We’d like to put some real emphasis on CW if we can get enough CW operators. But phone is important, too; and if you’re not comfortable with code you can still get on and work (a lot of) phone.

As last year, Field Day pins will be available, with the Club subsidizing half the cost of a pin. If you want one, your cost will be $2.50. This year, for the first time, snazzy Field Day T-shirts will be available at a cost of $9.95. Available sizes are Medium to XXL. If you want to order either of these items, please contact K8EIO.
